  • 1/4 cup Butter Adds flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar For balance in the dough.
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt Enhances flavor.
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour Provides structure.
  • 2 large Eggs Best at room temperature.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Optional for aroma.
  • 2 cups Oil for frying Use neutral oil with high smoke point.

For the coating

  • 1/2 cup Granulated sugar For the sweet coating.
  • 1 tablespoon Ground cinnamon Mixed with sugar for coating.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a medium saucepan, combine water, butter, sugar, and salt. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat.
  • Stir in flour all at once, cooking until it forms a smooth dough ball that pulls away from the pan, about one minute.
  • Transfer the dough to a bowl and let it cool for five minutes before adding the vanilla and eggs, one at a time, mixing until glossy.
  • Prepare your frying oil in a heavy pot or deep skillet, heating it to 350-360 degrees F.

Cooking

  • Pipe churros, about four to six inches long, directly into the hot oil, ensuring not to crowd the pot.
  • Fry until deep golden brown, about two to four minutes total, turning as needed.
  • Remove churros and place them on a paper towel-lined tray, then roll them in the cinnamon sugar mixture while warm.

Notes

For variations, try filled churros, spiced sugar, or gluten-free options. Fried churros are best enjoyed fresh but can be reheated. Serve with a delicious dip like chocolate ganache or warm caramel.
